When I look at the Your

When I look at the Your Computers webpage, I sometimes see the names of the computers, but usually only their ID numbers.

Is there some way I can make the system always show me the computer names?

Whenever I browse my list of computers on the website, I always see the correct name of each host in the 'Name' column, unless the hostname hasn't been correctly set by the local OS. BOINC asks the local OS for the hostname and simply reports that to the server every time it communicates with the server.

You can check what your BOINC client sees as your hostname by browsing your state file (client_state.xml) in your BOINC data folder. Browse it (but don't make changes) with a simple text editor like Notepad and you will find a block at the top of the file. Within that block you will find a tag which should contain BOINC's idea of your hostname.

You can check your OS's idea of your hostname with the 'hostname' command entered via a DOS command prompt. If the hostname is incorrect, change it within Windows and BOINC will pick up the change.

Cheers,
Gary.

No, it will only show the names if you are logged in to the site. :-)

I just verified that you need a "refresh screen" (at least with IE6) to show the names again after a logout/login cycle.

Thanks. I just tried the "logout-login" thing, and I can see the names.

I'm thinking that I'd have to do that for each computer each time I wanted to see the list, since the hostname would change from one to another.

It seems to me to be an unnecessary complication.

Why would the hostname change if you look at it from another host?

If you select "remain logged in" and don't delete the associated cookies, the hostnames should always show, as long as you don't log out. You have to log in from each computer though, before you can see the names from that one, since the log in is per computer.

And you don't have to log out

And you don't have to log out from the website from one machine, before you can log in with another. I often have two or more machines, logged in to the same website and showing the same message boards or host details, at the same time.

You shouldn't post your email

Message 72637 in response to message 72636

You shouldn't post your email address on a public forum; there are a lot of spambots out there!

Your problem isn't one with the Einstein@home webpages either, so you should have started a new thread at "Getting Started" or "Problems and Bug Reports" (no big deal, just think about it the next time:-).

As of the time of this post, your account shows "Credit: 80, RAC: 5." So, your problem seems to be that your computer doesn't have the newest data aboard. It will receive them with the next contact to the server, so just be patient a bit longer.

You can see your online account by clicking the "Your account" link at the bottom of this page. There you can find information about your computer (host) and recent tasks (and many other).

Gruß,
Gundolf

The Team Starfire World BOINC

The Team Starfire World BOINC Stats 'N Stones website linked to in the "Your account" page (under "Cross-project statistics") is no longer.

Farewell

I'm sad to report that it doesn't look like I will be able to get Stats 'N Stones back up. I don't have the cash and there haven't been enough in donations to suggest that I can get the database server back up and running.

I will be returning any donations made since the server went down over the next few days.

I'd like to thank everyone visiting and supporting Stats 'N Stones over the years. I'm glad people found the site useful while it lasted.

Contact me Here if you nave any questions or comments.

Final Update: Tuesday, December 7, 2010 12:00 PM

The link should be removed.
