Religion appears to be the reason for most large and lasting wars.

I thought human primates were the reason for wars, long or short, and that religion, like nationalism, is one among many rationales we use to justify our aggressive tendencies.

Ah, it's the testosterone, is it? Reminds me of a PoliSci course I took where part of the assigned reading was the book, “The Biological Inevitability of Patriarchy. Obviously the objective for the students was to refute it...

So if aggression is the culprit, then maybe there's a physiological basis for the biological inevitability of wars? I sure hope not... :)

Seems to me that aggression has a physiological basis in human primates (the culprits), as with our chimp relatives. I think religion, as a meaning-based software program, is only one of the ways we justify our aggression. Religion certainly isn't the cause of the aggression I observed between two human primate males over which one of them claimed a chair first in the library.

I also think religion isn't so much about the idea of deities, as it is about human primate authority.

We human primates are the culprit, regardless of the excuse we use to justify our aggression, as I see it. Wanna fight about it?

LOL

Aggressiveness works equally well with love or hate. It's a conscious decision then, to love thy neighbor.

When the forces of evolution are unchecked by conscious thought, there are only fossilized materials to tell the tale.

Aggression on a fair and level playing field is just plain fun, and very good exercise. Aggression by a team of experts leads to notable, historical accomplishments.

I'm gonna go get aggressive with a Sudoku puzzle. Just learned about them from Ziran, in nevermorestr's Riddle thread. Best time for me with the easy ones is down to 14:40 (mm:ss), gotta get it to the average of only five minutes...

Speaking of notable accomplishments, am listening to live mission audio on the old laptop, and watching NASA TV on the old desktop, as the Space Shuttle Atlantis is about 20 minutes and counting for launch... my kind of aggression, reaching for the stars :)

And I just watched the shuttle crew sign off for the night. Fun posts.
