Congrats Phil! :-) Of

Congrats Phil! :-)

Of course I'm madly trying to think of what might be this thread's trigger .....

Now what ya'll tomato growers need is one of these :

.... yes, it is the dread of all small ( and some not so small ) furry things. The Powerful Owl. If you want a life to end in a damp squeak then this is your guy! Available 24/7, though night work a specialty. We had one in the neighbourhood a few months ago, which explained where all the rabbits went. All he needs is a high spot to sit. And wait.

Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) That's a ringtail possum on static display there, about raccoon size ....

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal

I like that picture!!
I have hawks and owls but also lots of trees that the squirrels can run around in that the birds have a hard time maneuvering thru. The local cats get some squirrels, the foxes get some, we have even seen a coyote once or twice, YES I live in a neighborhood of about 500 homes surrounding a man made 100 acre lake. Some homes. like mine, have trees behind them, some homes have zero trees. I got to choose where they built my home, it was just a tree filled lot when I chose it. The builder then told me which model of home I was getting and then I got to chose some options from a list. Behind my home is a slope down to a small creek that feeds the lake then up the other side to more homes that during the summer months are almost not visible due to the foliage. They are close enough though for some idiot to hit his golf balls into my yard though!! I threatened to shoot his dog and he stopped at least for now!! He was using REAL golf balls, not the practice ones! I'm guessing he got better and they are now clearing the trees.

Anyway back to the squirrels, I was lucky and pre-empted a raid yesterday afternoon, I was out on my deck picking tomatoes and I saw him heading my way. I grabbed my airsoft pistol and emptied 2 full clips at him as he took off running. He did NOT like the sound of the pellets bouncing off the branches near him! The pellets are biodegradable, so it's no big deal where I shoot them.

CONGRATULATIONS Phil on your win!! But I am now WINNING this game!!!

Shot these down by the river

Shot these down by the river a while back. Its a female osprey in flight. She was not happy that I was ~25 feet below her nest with chicks. Enjoy.

A flyover. Checking out the "intruder". Deciding what to do

Outbound: United 52 heavy left turn, maintain 5000, contact approach control xxx.xx

Inbound. Looking down the zoom lens, mouth open.

She wants a piece of me. Lost a bit of focus. It was a new camera and she is moving. Look at the focus in her eyes. "If I can only get to his heart!!!!"

Landing on the nest. Check out the talons.

Winning!!!!

Awesome photos. You do not

Awesome photos. You do not want to annoy Mum, her focus is intense!

We have pairs of wedge-tail eagles which operate by bracketing the prey. There is a good hill nearby with an great slope for them to hover on the updraft in summer. I sometimes stop on the way home to see them work a paddock. The rabbits always find out too late. The eagles are sort of like nukes : the only defense is to not be there. This is one from our local sanctuary :

who performed in a recent indi movie called Healing, co-starring with a guy called Hugo Weaving.

[ The photo I provided was of a female owl actually. The guys are about 2/3rd size with a more uniform dull brown. They are not Whispering Death, they are Silent Death. At least to my ears. ]

Cheers, Mike.

It is chilly here this

It is chilly here this morning, it was in the upper 50's IN JULY!!! That is NOT normal, but feels MUCH better then the 90+ heat AND humidity we normally get around this time of year. I have had the windows open the last two nights and might every night until the weekend when it is supposed to return to the 90's.

No squirrels on my deck for the last couple of days, at least not that I have seen. It's either because I scared the last one so bad he remembers, or because I am picking all the red ones and they don't like the green ones.

The hot pepper plant is doing better, but not alot better, it is growing but I am not sure any peppers will actually show up. I may have to go back to the Caribbean Red ones I grew a few years ago, they did very well.

I am winning!!!
