I am running BOINC on my Sony Vaio-Flip w/ Windows 8.1Pro w/media center. It has an INTEL Core i7-4500U CPU operating at 1.8GHz, and an INVIDIA G-Force GT-735M graphics card w/driver v 340.52. When I first loaded BOINC I installed LHC@Home w/The appropriate V-Box. My computer ran perfectly. After several weeks, I installed Einstein@Home, and my computer immediately froze. I have tried several things, but nothing seems to help. Is there any way to remove Einstein without starting BOINC, or has anyone experienced and overcome this problem? Thanks!

Computer freezes when Einstein Runs

You're also got an Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400 GPU, all the tasks sent to it have errored:

All tasks for computer 11629108

If you go to your Einstein project preferences and deselect 'Use INTEL GPU' you'll no longer get work for that device once your host has managed to contact Einstein, althrough you may still have some existing work,

If you're still having problems, try deselecting 'Use NVIDIA GPU' too and update the project again.

The Einstein CPU apps are unlikely to be causing the problem.

Hi ! I'm running Boinc on

Hi !

I'm running Boinc on my Toshiba i7-4200m and have approx the same problem REG NEY described. When I boot the PC and access my account (this PC have 3 admin. accounts but Boinc was installed only on mine), the PC freezed systematicaly after 2-3 minutes, even when I close Boinc (rapidly !!!). When I installed Boinc, I attached Einstein@home and immediately, I received 66 (or so, +/- 2) unit mixed for my CPU (2 or 3 I think), a couple of units for my Nvidia GT740m and the rest for the Intel 4600. And Boinc then began to crush ALL the units simultaneously.

The ONLY way I can stop this mess was to log onto another administrator account and do a restore to a previous state (4 days ago). Now, all is working perfectly(without Boinc 8-( ).

What have I did wrong ? Or is it a bug ? I don't know...

Hope this help...!

If I have new infos from Einstein/Boinc staff/moderator, I will try to reinstall it but if not, I will continue with my another PC only (will be upgraded from a GTX260 OEM to a eVGA GTX660 very soon 8-))

Sorry for my so-so written english, I'm french speaking.

You need to do same thing as

You need to do same thing as Claggy suggested

If you go to your Einstein project preferences and deselect 'Use INTEL GPU' you'll no longer get work for that device once your host has managed to contact Einstein, although you may still have some existing work,

Haswell Intel drivers can do this if not updated.

Happened to my i7-4700M instant freeze.

Hi Tom,

Thank's a lot for the comfirmation of the two solutions. I will erase all the data files on the computer and re-download Boinc + Einstein. I had deselect Use of Intel GPU in my project pref. (with my another PC) but I was initially unable tu deselect the option before the sytem freeze. I'll poet the results here when all done.

Thnkk's a lot for all and thank's a lot too to Claggy & Reg Ney for first asking the question !

One thing you could do too is to use the different Home, School, Work and Default venues to make it work for you. You could go into your account, einstein@home preferences and setup a new venue without the Intel Gpu being checked and move you pc to that venue, that way you can get into your pc without having it shut down so quickly. For instance my default venue has these settings:
Use CPU
Enforced by version 6.10+ no
Use ATI GPU
Enforced by version 6.10+ yes
Use NVIDIA GPU
Enforced by version 6.10+ yes
Use INTEL GPU
Enforced by version 7.0.27+ no

You can see it is set to use a standalone gpu ONLY, no Intel gpu and no cpu. I use the other venues to add in those features for the pc's I want to run using them. You move the pc's into the venues thru the webpage, which will then update the pc as soon as it talks to the webpage.
