A Gamma-ray pulsar search work-unit completed but has since been stuck in data transfer one second into upload with a status of "upload:pending". Neither restarting my laptop (running Ubuntu 1404 64bit) nor clicking "retry" or "suspend / resume" has any effect. Is there any way to release it before it expires (onn 4 Nov)?

How to release a work-unit stuck in "upload-pending"?

"Upload pending" points to a problem uploading the result files to the servers.
I assume your Internet connection is fine as you did post here and that "Network activity" is not suspended in Boinc -> Activity menu.
If the problem still exists then try opening the event log in Boinc (Ctrl+Shift+E or "Advanced -> Event log") to see if any error messages appear, you could try to click on retry in the transfer tab to get some new messages in the log.

If it doesn't give anything useful then it might be time to set some debug log flags, to do so you need to create a file called cc_config.xml in the Boinc data directory. The path can be found in the event log near the top after a restart of Boinc. Create the file using a simple text editor and save it using ANSI encoding, put the following into it:
[pre]

1

[/pre]
When done do a "Read config files" from the "Advanced" menu in Boinc and the post the relevant output from the event log here for us to look at.

Thanks for the advice.

Network activity is set to "always available". I live in rural SW France so the broadband connection can be a bit flaky. I have had problems from time to time over the last fortnight with my wireless connection to the Orange Livebox router. I suspect this is what caused the initial problem - though all subsequent uploads and downloads have been fine so far.

No error messages in logs - I have rebooted my laptop several times since reading your message and have not seen anything unusual in the log for each session. When I highlight the files stuck in "upload pending" and click retry transfer, nothing happens - and nothing appears in the event log either.

I will do this next and post the result later today.

Tried this (first time I have edited system files on the fly as Root, so was a tad nerve-wracking!). The first part of the the result wass:

The log continued with the same messages for the two stuck files repeated over and over until I edited the debug line back out of the cc_config file.

Not sure if this gives any indication of how to release the stuck upload but I'm learning by doing this!
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give... if only to leave well enough alone.
Cheers

What does

What does http://einstein4.aei.uni-hannover.de/EinsteinAtHome/cgi-bin/file_upload_handler give when you type/paste it into a browser on that computer?

From the computer with the stuck work unit, the page for that link shows:

This looks ok for a browser. The computer (at least the browser) can correctly resolve the URL and finds and contacts the file upload handler.

I'm not sure why your BOINC client doesn't. Do you have some proxy settings in your browser configuration that you don't have in the BOINC client (or the other way 'round)?

I've occasionally seen a BRP4

I've occasionally seen a BRP4 upload stalled recently. It usually lasts for a few minutes (enough for me to notice, and maybe try a couple of retries), then clears by itself.

Clues:
1) The file shows as completely uploaded - all 4K of it - but then doesn't clear.
2) On one occasion, I managed to activate http_debug in time, and managed to see a '502 bad gateway' in the server response. I'll see if I've still got that full log.

I can't see a proxy issue.
The Chrome browser I used, in the Chromium Advanced settings says "Chromium is using your computer's system proxy settings to connect to the network."
The Ubuntu 1404 system / network setting indicates Network Proxy Method "None - applied system wide".
I am running BOINC Manager 7.2.42 x64 and the Tools / Options show both HTTP Proxy and SOCKS Proxy off (greyed out).

The two files are still sitting there, several days after completion, with 0.00% uploaded, one second in, still saying "upload pending" after a number of reboots and other files transferring up / down fine.

Cheers

When ATLAS recently switched

When ATLAS recently switched servers two people one in Uk and one in Germany

had stuck uploads due to http errors. They both had to set http 1.0

to get it to work. One didn't even restart BOINC just reread the config files.
