I am a novice at distributed computing. Must my modem be connected to the Web to receive work from the project? What power configurations should the PC be set at? How may I load the BOINC Einstein screen saver? How can the BOINC servers address my computer if it is not online and they do not know my telephone number? Tnx.

Yes you do have to be connected to the Internet on occasions to get work, and to return results. You can first download the Boinc Platform from:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php Once you have the Boinc Platform you can attach to the Einstein program, and other projects if you wish. I assume that you have already recieve your URL and Key since you are posting. On the projects Tab of the Boinc you downloaded, there is a spot to "Attach to project"
Follow directions, stay online and when you attach, you will start getting the program packages from the projects you want to work on. When the workunits reach 100% (time varies according to PC setup), you will need to reconnect to internet and send your results in.
All answers needed for proper operation can be found at a link put togehter by Paul Buck. It is an excellent Manula on operation of projects, from the basics, to the complex.
Happy crunching. The link for info is as follows:
