I'm trying to set up Einstein on my second computer. When I try to attach the project to BOINC, I enter the key and url, however after a couple of seconds the project is removed from the list. The messages from BOINC follows. Einstein works great on my Desktop, my laptop is what is causing this. It's on Windows XP SP2. No firewall is installed. It is a freshly imaged machine. The laptop is on a domain, not sure if that would restrict me from using this. Let me know any suggestions, or if you require more information.

Setting up Einstein on 2nd computer.

The key message is "Master file fetch failed". The client couldn't make any contact with our server. Check the internet settings of that machine, especially proxies. Try to open a browser on that machine with the einstein URL.

Message 14391 in response to message 14390

Makes sense. I am able to open up the URL in a browser. If it can't connect, there's the possibility the port is being blocked on the router at work. Which port does this use? I'll have to check this at home when I'm not behind any router and if that's the case then I can just d/l work when I'm at home. Thanks for the help!

# The program boinc.exe

# The program boinc.exe should be allowed Internet access on port 80, local network access on ports 1043 and 31416.
# The program boincmgr.exe should be allowed local network access on ports 1043 and 31416

Wonder if some programmer was being cute with the port selection ... ?

The port 31416 was used for

The port 31416 was used for communication between the client and the GUI / Manager before BOINC was officially given the privileged port 1043. In case that you are using an older client (such as 4.19) with a newer Manage, then you need the port 31416, otherwise the 1043 will be used.

In any case all communication between the Client and the outside world (i.e. the server) is made via the usual http port 80.

Cute? as in selecting Pi for the port number? probably, but I think it was also appropriate.

Or in case some bad bad bad

Message 14397 in response to message 14395

Or in case some bad bad bad bad program has taken over TCP port 1043, you can use TCP port 21416. :)

Check out the tech news on

Message 14399 in response to message 14398

Check out the tech news on Seti's site. They are in the process of moving equipment around. They changed the DNS on one machine. They said it may take a few hours for most of the world, and upto a couple of days for those with finicky servers for the DNS changes to propogate.
