If I upgrade my RAM from 512MB to 1024MB will I increase the speed that I am processing the workunits?

Can anybody answer this question?

Gravity increases significantly in Autumn, because apples fall in large numbers during that time!

The Einstein@Home application doesn't use more than 20-30MB RAM.

Thank you for your answer.

Thank you for your answer. That means it is all a matter of the CPU you have?

On my Windoze machine, BOINC

On my Windoze machine, BOINC and the scientific application together use not more than 14 MB RAM. I guess that there will not be a significant improvement in processing time for workunits on adding RAM to your machine.

But there's a way of incrasing the speed by factor 4 at least, that does not even require to open your computer nor to spent money:

Use an optimized application and install an calibrating client. It means you stop Crunching for a minute, replace some files and relaunch BOINC.

Loxami, thank you very

Loxami,

thank you very much!

It is amazing! It used to take 8-9 hours to complete a workunit, and now it only takes 2!

If you have one piece of RAM and you mainboard, etc. supports dual channel RAM, then there will be a slight improvement.

I think you want S41.07

There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers. - Richard Feynman

Only slightly at best...it depends also on your FSB speed and the memory speed you have installed. Many computers have PC2700 (333MHz) strips but the motherboard can handle PC3200 (400MHz). Upgrading them will give you a small increase in speed. Also the CAS number of the strips is important (the lower the better).

However, having more memory makes it easier for your computer to multitask, i.e. chew gum and walk at the same time without locking up so easily under a given situation. One thing about memory is that you can't have too much of it, but having more than you really need won't show up as a greater increase of overall speed; there are other limiting factors.

Also be careful that you don't mix memory strips of different specs.

Good luck, and remember Google is your friend.
