Since the upload of the S5 my computer has been running constantly at 100% CPU usage when i don't stop BOINC. I guess, though i am not sure it isn't the same for every project i am envolved in, it is Einstein that is making my computer work like wild. Every second my computer completes between 0.003-0.004%. Currently, i've used less than 10 hours to get to 85.3%. Is this typical? When we were running the S4 the workunits were smaller, but today i complete these new ones in quite a short time compared to the size of the workunits S4 and S5 relative. Anyone who knows what causes this?

Einstein is running wild

The machine always ran at 100% when BOINC is running, this is run at a low priority and should give you CPU when you need it. This is how it was designed.

As for the length, yes some are a lot longer. The following is a quote from Dr. Bruce Allen.

There are two types of workunits: short and long. The short workunits have XXXX.X less than or equal to 0400.0.

There are also two types of data files: short and long. The short data files (l1_XXXX.X) are from the LIGO Livingston Observatory, and are about 4.5MB in size. The long data files (h1_XXXX.X) are from LIGO Hanford and are about 16MB in size. Note: once your computer downloads one of these data files, it should be able to do many workunits for that same file.

Well it is just that i really makes a lot of noise on my laptop. I recall a time when you couldn't figure if it was turned on or off. But i guess it can't be changed?

This sounds like a dust problem. Laptops are prone to heat up easier than a desktop. It needs cleaning on a regular basis.

I spray mine with canned air on a weekly basis during the summer. I also have a USB cooler that keeps the tempature down a little. During the cooler days I spray it out once every couple of weeks. Also make sure NONE of the vents are ever blocked.

After the dust is cleaned out

After the dust is cleaned out a laptop cooler would do good.

Fans to keep it cool.

Maybe that is what i need.. I haven't cleaned it ever.. My laptop harddisk burned out once, but i figure it was because i covered the vents back then. I won't do that again though :)
