I was just curious if there is any reason that a job would never be credited due to an error made by my computer, or for any reasone for that matter. I just noticed I had a couple that date back to August 20th and 21st and still pending. I rarely look at the stats but was just curious if these jobs did not produce the same results as others running the same job and were just being allowed to "expire" without giving any credit?

Pending jobs

I have two WUs completed by myself back on 22/08. Credit is still pending however because the other cruncher has not returned a result yet. On checking, I find both WUs are with the same cruncher. (expiry date of WUs is 04/09.Let's hope they are done by then!)

They probably will be. The only reason I became interested was due to fact I almost never check stats and was wondering what would happen if, 1. No other crunchers returned that particular job by the "expiration" date, or 2. My results differed significantly from others who had finished the same job. I would assume in the first case, they would just continue to send out the job until they recieved the needed number of results. Just out of curiosity, is the any situation or condition that would prevent someone who had completed and returned a job on time would not recieve any credit? I looked in the FAQ but the only reference was basically what you described.

If the other cruncher is not done by the expiration date, they will lose that work unit and it will be sent out to another cruncher. If that cruncher does not finish the work unit in time, it will be resent to yet another cruncher. Your own pending credits will not be affected.

As for your last question, that situation may arise if your results differ from those obtained by the other cruncher. In that case, the work unit will be sent to a third cruncher. The third set of results will be compared to the previous two results. If the third set of results agree with one of the previously received results, the two crunchers who agree will be given credit. The other cruncher's results will be discarded and no credit will be given. You'll know it when it happens because you'll see the outcome column in your results list change from "Pending" to "Validate error."

Hope this helps.
