Thank you. That road will be the A19, only about half mile away. Lots of farm land and tracks round here, nice for walking the dog.

I'm not seeing me on the new map :( You're there (blue marker, but didn't check to see if it was actually in Ohio); was taking a quick look this morning on an older machine (had to use Open GL, worked s...l...o...w). Saw lots of familiar names while looking at North America from about 30 miles up :) Kath, did you try clicking Raven's link, and then on the 'Google Earth' button from there? I think that's how the BOINC Users data in a 'My Places' file gets loaded, which has the names (alphabetically) and locations...

zc_science: Took me a while, but I found it. Your marker is in the river. There are multiple project team founders. But it doesn't matter. I guess I misunderstood what you meant by founder. And I clicked View in Google Maps. Duh. KSMarksPsych: My bad. I should have been clearer. I know many teams have different "founders" on different projects, depending on who gets there first, but my intention was for the original, overall founder of a team to get the red icon.

Anyone familiar with Google Earth and wishing to customize their locations and labels can email me a .kmz file as an attachment for inclusion. Send it to bcboinc (-at-) fandom.ca Thanks for making the effort to do this, Raven. I've never been that good with geography, so when someone mentions where they're from I'm usually at a loss - this is way cool! Do you know, off hand, what percentage of the total number of active crunchers are now on the map? I'm not completely familiar with Google Earth yet, but I think I can figure out how to skootch my marker over a little bit to where I usually do my rollerblading :) Should we just check weekly for updates, or will you bump this thread occasionally to mention how many new users are on the map? (Good thread to sticky?)

Thanks for making the effort to do this, Raven. I've never been that good with geography, so when someone mentions where they're from I'm usually at a loss - this is way cool! You're welcome. Do you know, off hand, what percentage of the total number of active crunchers are now on the map? Probably infinitesimally small. As it is, not all active crunchers read the forums on projects they join. Should we just check weekly for updates, or will you bump this thread occasionally to mention how many new users are on the map? (Good thread to sticky?) I intend to announce it, both on the projects I currently have threads about this on and on the GE board itself. ____________ ![]() ![]()

Hi Raven – I remembered this thread, don't know if it's helpful, since these folks may not be aware of your project. It also might be helpful to post threads on the Science and Cruncher's Corner boards, since not all crunchers visit the Cafe...

New Malden, Surrey, UK for me if this is possible please. Fountain roundabout will do! Found the city easy enough, but didn't see a roundabout with a fountain in it. (Or is this a British term for the roundabout that's built as an overpass?) ____________ ![]() ![]()

The fountain itself is hidden in the shadow of the tree in the photograph Google Earth has of the area. That's why I missed it the first time. Your marker is there (couldn't distinguish the pub). Really? Thanks! The program I am using here is called Google Earth. Go to http://earth.google.com/ and follow the links to download the free version. Once installed and you are running it, go here and click on "View in Google Earth". (If you want to do a test run without downloading and installing Google Earth first, use the second link and click "View in Google Maps" instead. It doesn't look as pretty, but it has the information there.) I'm not too worried as my location on the map is about a mile from my house but I'm just curious as to how I ended up on here!

I'm not too worried as my location on the map is about a mile from my house but I'm just curious as to how I ended up on here! In your case, it came from the "home port" you entered at Pirates@Home under the project preferences. (Note the little note that says it's used for a Google Earth Placemark file... that's me with the help of scripting added by Wormholio over there.) You can see this thread on the Pirates Message Boards for more info.
