Sticky `windows_x86_64` not found ?

Until the server software is upgraded, it won't be fixed. BOINC is two sided, and the server side is also being upgraded, sometimes slower than the client side.

There probably will not be a 64 bit client, when the server side is fixed, it will send you the 32 bit with the 64 bit request. You can fix this yourself now. (I don't use it so all I know is a app_info.xml file needs to be added to your einstein folder. What is in it I am unsure.)

So right now it's your decision to either add the file, or wait for the BOINC server software to get to a point where people are ready to upgrade.

...well I think ohiomike doesn't want the problem fixed on his computer in the first place but wants the thread which describes the solution get 'fixed'/sticky in this forum...

The problem is a LOT of people don't know how to fix it. I currently have 4 machines setup to run x64 (3 Linux and 1 Windoze). What I was suggesting was a description FROM THE PROJECT on the proper way to set this up, and links to the apps. It would keep the subject from coming up over and over.

In reference to Einstein not having their server SW up to date, or not having a 64 bit app- that is another problem. Think about it- EVERY new Windows machine sold cannot run Einstein! Every machine updated to Vista cannot run Einstein.

That's not necessarily true. Most of the new systems being sold now still have the 32 bit versions of Vista installed on them, as most of them sold still have 1-2 GB of memory in them. Why someone would buy 32 bit Vista in this day and age is beyond me as the processor in it undoubtedly is 64 bit, and cannot use more than 3 GB of installed memory without the 64 bit version, even if the motherboard will take it.

Just for my understanding... When you said "when the server side if fixed", do you mean: you are waiting for BOINC to release the x86_64 server part? Or, just you have not planned to do the upgrade in a few hours?!! ;-)

I'm absolutely not sarcastic, I'm just wonder why all other projects I'm participating in have no such problem... Either they got or not a 64bits process to send.

The server side "fix" is to send a 32 bit app to the x86 machine. 95% of the 64 bit OS's can run the 32 bit apps. This is what most projects are doing now.

Since the project won't post

Since the project won't post it:
Go to
Einstein@Home Beta Testing
and down load the Windows app. Install as directed, then edit the app_info.xml file and insert
windows_x86_64
on the line following all occurances of
x
where x = 417, 424, and 428
Then shutdown Boinc (close and exit the manager if running manually, or stop and then re-start the service if running as a service.

or whatever the current version numbers are.

Thanks for the description of the workaround!
