A few days ago I the following appeared on all of my projects:

Most of these problems are with proxies and firewalls blocking the complete outgoing and incoming data. So make absolutely sure you are using the correct proxy settings in BOINC, when you use a proxy. Also make sure you are allowing BOINC through your firewall software.

Most of these problems are with proxies and firewalls blocking the complete outgoing and incoming data. So make absolutely sure you are using the correct proxy settings in BOINC, when you use a proxy. Also make sure you are allowing BOINC through your firewall software. Thanks Jord. No changes had been made to my equipment when the problem arose. I have checked all the settings as a result of your reply and have even taken the firewall down. The problem persists. Tom

I see you have service pack 3. I've read unconfirmed reports that this adds to Windows the disability to have programs in the \\Program Files\\ directory that (constantly) write to disk.

I see you have service pack 3. I've read unconfirmed reports that this adds to Windows the disability to have programs in the \\Program Files\\ directory that (constantly) write to disk. Jord, I have full virus and spy ware installed and running. I've had SP3 installed since it came out last month. BOINC was installed after SP3. I will try version 6. Thanks for the offer and the FAQ. I'll let you know how it goes. Regards, Tom

I have full virus and spy ware installed and running. Continuously? I ask as there have been reports of BOINC not playing nice with active scans of AV/AS software. Always, if you have the possibility, exclude the BOINC/BOINC Data directory from the active scans. On the other hand, this gives different problems, as the software locks parts of BOINC. Usually write errors and such, not networking errors, which you have. So yeah, try out BOINC 6 first. I'll stay around if you run into trouble. ____________ Jord -The BOINC FAQ Service -CUDA/CAL Stream FAQ

I have full virus and spy ware installed and running. Gents, I have upgraded to BOINC V6 and have separate directories for the app and its data. I have added all the BOINC applications to the trusted lists in my firewall, anti-virus and spyware programs. I am connected directly to my LAN rather than using the wi-fi connection. The problem persists. Thanks, Tom

...even editing various XML files in the BOINC folder. Did you try cc_config.xml? I could solve a similar problem by switching from htt protocol version 1.1 to version 1.0. To do so, you must create a text file named cc_config.xml in your BOINC directory (if it doesn't exist already). Since I'm still working with rev 5.10.45, I don't know whether it has to be in the program- or the data directory. With notepad or a similar editor, enter (copy&paste) the following into that file: <cc_config> There are no lower case 'L' characters in that code, only digits '1'. More information to cc_config you can find here.<options> <http_1_0>1</http_1_0> </options> </cc_config> In BOINC Manager (Advanced view) select menu 'Advanced->Read config file' to activate the new configuration. Hope that helps. Gruß, Gundolf ____________ Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) ![]()

Since I'm still working with rev 5.10.45, I don't know whether it has to be in the program- or the data directory. Gundolf and Jord, I've created the cc_config.xml file as suggested in the data directory and read it using the manager. The problem continues. I think I will uninstall BOINC and start all over again... BTW Gundolf, good luck against Spain. Thanks for the help. Tom

The way your computer contacts the schedulers has changed from using method POST to method GET. BOINC uses POST to contact the schedulers, the schedulers get a GET result from you, which is usually used by a browser.

The way your computer contacts the schedulers has changed from using method POST to method GET. BOINC uses POST to contact the schedulers, the schedulers get a GET result from you, which is usually used by a browser. Is there something I can do to change it back to POST? I wonder if this is the root of the problem which has also affected others? If I was to uninstall BOINC, remove all trace of previous files and folders and clean the registry and then reinstall would that clear it? I would rather not as almost all of my Projects have completed their WU's. Tom

The way your computer contacts the schedulers has changed from using method POST to method GET. BOINC uses POST to contact the schedulers, the schedulers get a GET result from you, which is usually used by a browser. Would using BAM have caused the change from POST to GET? The problem started about the time I added BAM as an Account Manager. I have since removed the service. Tom

If I was to uninstall BOINC, remove all trace of previous files and folders and clean the registry and then reinstall would that clear it? I would rather not as almost all of my Projects have completed their WU's. You can backup the BOINC Data directory, then uninstall BOINC and delete everything, also clean out the registry. Then put the backup back and reinstall BOINC while pointing to the data directory. But I don't think this will fix it. I haven't heard back from the developers yet, then again, it's weekend. I also don't think BAM has anything to do with it. That doesn't change the way BOINC contacts schedulers. By the way, how did you disable BAM? As as far as I know, when you detach from BAM, it will detach you from all the projects you are attached to, thereby losing all work that's ready to report. ____________ Jord -The BOINC FAQ Service -CUDA/CAL Stream FAQ

OK, edit the cc_config.xml file (you made it for the HTTP 1.0 option) so it looks like this: <cc_config> <log_flags> <http_debug>1</http_debug> <http_xfer_debug>1</http_xfer_debug> </log_flags> </cc_config> save it in your BOINC Data directory. Restart BOINC. Make contact with a couple of projects and post the messages from it here in this window. Alternatively, you can email me the log, if you don't want to give out your IP address to everyone around here (as that may show in the messages). I'll PM you my email address. With thanks. ____________ Jord -The BOINC FAQ Service -CUDA/CAL Stream FAQ

I have made the changes and emailed you the resulting message list. Nothing yet, so either extremely slow email, or I or you made a typo. ;-) (It's possible I did, so see PM) ____________ Jord -The BOINC FAQ Service -CUDA/CAL Stream FAQ

Finally the log was in and I forwarded it to one of the developers. I didn't see why it was getting that message. Let's wait and see if he does. It's possible he emails you directly.

Jord, Are we (you) going to post the solution to the problem now that your hard work with David's assistance has me up and working again? Tom

Are we (you) going to post the solution to the problem now that your hard work with David's assistance has me up and working again? Yup. I wrote the FAQ on it. :-) In short, this problem is caused by a corruption of the global_prefs.xml file. Exit BOINC, delete the file, restart BOINC and contact your projects and you'll be up and running. The full how to is in the FAQ. With thanks for your patience, Tom. ____________ Jord -The BOINC FAQ Service -CUDA/CAL Stream FAQ
