Profile: Robert Strohmeyer

Your personal background.
I'm an amateur astronomer and general science enthusiast. In my day job as a technology journalist, I have been following and reporting about distributed computing since the beginning of SETI@home in the late 1990s, and I've been donating my computer time to the cause from the start.
Your opinions about Einstein@Home
Astronomy is one of the few remaining fields of scientific inquiry in which amateurs can still make a difference from within their own backyards. And thanks to distributed computing projects like Einstein@Home, the opportunities for amateur involvement are increasing all the time.

Einstein@Home represents a unique opportunity for amateurs to kick in a contribution to the world of astrophysics, as the project puts our processor cycles to work toward a hard-science objective. I feel pretty good about that.
