| Originally from the Chicago area, I spent undergraduate years studying physics and mathematics at MIT. It seems only fitting to contribute as a member of the MIT LIGO team. |
| Your opinions about Einstein@Home |
Einstein@home is a wonderful idea in the image of seti@home. There is power in the distributed contribution of many individuals. Witness the strength of capitalist economies, not without their faults, driven by the unique initiatives of millions and the rapid growth of the world wide web out of infancy. After my first hours with NCSA's Mosaic in a basement math department computer lab the power of the web was apparent to me. Distributed contribution could play a role in energy solutions we develop in coming decades. As fixed-site users of energy are naturally distributed geographically, some version of solar or other energy generation at the site of individual homes, offices, and manufacturers could dramatically alter global energy production profiles replacing a significant fraction of centralized generation. Einstein@home's use of distributed computing simply makes good sense.
Update: I'm changing some local machines and network topology for a new project. Consequently, I may not be contributing processing power for a while.
