Profile: Chris Hayward

Your personal background.
I am originally from Michigan. I received a BS in Astronomy & Astrophysics, Mathematics, and Physics from the University of Michigan. I am now studying for the Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge (United Kingdom). Next year I will start the astronomy PhD program at Harvard University. Eventually I hope to do astrophysics research (probably semi-analytical and numerical studies of galaxy formation) and teach as a university professor.
Your opinions about Einstein@Home
Last June I attended the University of Texas-Brownsville Center for Gravitational Wave Astronomy's two-week Summer School in Gravitational Wave Astrophysics. After learning about the prospects and importance of gravitational wave observations, I decided to run Einstein@Home. I think it is a great way to harness massive computing power. The SETI program shows how effective distributed computing can be, and, in my opinion, Einstein@Home is a more scientific, more useful program, so it should receive more support from the science community and the public.
