Your personal background.
I found out about this from Caolionn O'Connell's blog. I'm a 21 year-old senior at Occidental College majoring in physics, and I plan on going to physics grad school after a year of math grad school at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas- where I'm from (since math grad school doesn't require the physics GRE :-). My laptop recently broke, so I'm running this program on an old HP Kayak loaned to me by my LA landlord...the thing takes forever to turn on and off so I just keep it running, which means I mine as well put it to good use during that time! I find that I am the most productive as a student and get the best grades when I'm in good shape...that entails lifting weights, practicing karate, and swimming/running on a regular basis. However, it is next to impossible to reconcile this with my favorite pastimes: reading physics books, scientist's biographies, and endless blogs, editing camcorder footage, baking excellent deserts to eat while I'm catching up on my movie watching, and taking naps in between meditating on the secrets of the universe (amateur theorizing is such fun!). I therefore limit the latter activities to only a few weeks during summer and winter breaks, intending to remain disciplined the rest of the year.
