Profile: Alessandro Freda

Your personal background.
Ex amateur astronomer from Genova (Italy), that left his hobby because of light pollution and clima tropicalization of my region. The above image was integrated with a handmade Cookbook-245 CCD camera on a very old 400mm newtonian during one of the last nights that I've spent under the Genova very bad sky.

I'm a nonstop active user of distributed computing projects since 18 May 1999, starting with the SETI@home and migrate to BOINC platform only at the end of the SETI Classic project. Now I support mainly different projects like SIMAP and Einstein@home that in my opinion will product more useful and short-term results, and running SETI only on some (Unix) platforms that haven't others projects available.

I'm also a active user of the Stardust@home project. This project don't use CPU time resources, but the manual work of the "dusters" at the VM (Virtual Microscope). At the end of phase I (aug-2006 aug-2007), working about 90 min per day, these were my numbers:
Total Movies Viewed: 83385
Your Overall Score: 24029
Your Rank: 73 out of 24150
Specificity: 99.91%
Sensitivity: 99.92%
Now I'm involved in the phase II.
