| Your personal background. |
| I am a cardiopulmonary physiologist, currently working in sleep science. For recreation I write science fiction, collect rare minerals (exclusively Franklin/Ogdensburg, NJ mines), enjoy astronomy, and do laundry, dishes, and feed the dogs so my wife can attend grad school full-time. It's all fun, just some of it more than others. There are no neutron stars in my neighborhood (western NY) yet, but who knows...? |

I enjoy all forms of research and simply want to contribute to this novel and developing scheme of distributed research. It is my hope that, as such work and opportunities become more common, the protocols and systems will be refined so that greater and greater computing power wil be available for a wide range of projects.
Identification and study of neutron stars and gravitational waves would, once, have been something to which the warning "do not attempt this at home," would have applied. It would have cost me way more than a week's salary to attempt it, but no longer. Contributing to/participating in such a project is a way to be part of a bigger goal than ordinarily available to an individual. |
