| Your personal background. |
Up till now I have just run two WUs of CPDN simultaneously, and my computer seems to handle them both very well. However, I consider einstein@home the next most important project, so yesterday (28th October 2007) I decided to download two WUs from this website. This is possible as my system has a Pentium duel-core CPU of speed 3,400GHz. I just wish I understood what the graphics depict! Maybe someone would care to inform me?
My hobies are first (naturally) home computing, digital still photography, astronomy, crosswords, current affairs (local, national and international). I like to view television programms, but it has always to be factual (documentaries), and I hate "soaps", as I'm not into voyeurism! I like pets, but haven't any at the moment, as my poor Mitzi (chihuahua) died in the past year. I love gadgets, e.g. anything to do with computers or home entertainment. I have a Sony palmcorder, but haven't used it for years. I enjoy listening to music occasionally, and have a very wide taste, but for some reason this doesn't include country and western, although I certainly don't hate it. However, I do loath very noisy music such as "heavy metal" (is such can be described as music). I also enjoy some comdey programmes, and used to enjoy old shows such as "The Goons"; due to my age my early teens coonsisted of loving the real "Rock 'n Roll" such as "Bill Haley and the Comets". Also I love the oldies (vocals) which were around at the time, and even prior to that, e.g. "Big Band Music", and natually the likes of Glenn Miller. |
| Your opinions about Einstein@Home |
For a few years after starting my home computing hobbie (late 1999), I completed more WUs I can remember of SETI@home, but got very disillusioned by doing this, and thought it rather pointless, given the fact that it's very unlikely earthlings will make contact with other beings; for a start if they exist (which they MUST), it would take them far too long to receive our signals, and if they still exist presently, they may very well not by the time our signals reach them, and even though they still did, by the time they've figured out how to reply to us (assuming it's by radio), I imagine none of us would exist to appreciate it, let alone our beautiful planet. I came to the conclusion the whole project is pure hocus-pocus, although it has amply demonstrated the practicality and value of mass computing.
I have written enough for now, but if I have any other points of interest to add, I will edit this profile at a later date.
Meantime, can anyone advise me how I can change my Location from "International" to "Scotland" or "United Kingdom" and other things? There doesn't seem to be any way of doing this on this page, and I would also like to add my einstein@home work to Team Scotland, as I have already done with CPDN WUs. |
