Profile: Nathan Zamecnik

Your personal background.
Currently a Computer Science undergrad at UWM planning to graduate this spring. Enjoy tinkering with programming languages, reading about compilers and related topics as well as enjoying leisure time more than I should (that includes just dreaming and thinking, etc). I hope to eventually find work working on operating systems or programming language systems or even better be paid to do whatever I want. I would like to develop a unique programming language one day...but only if I feel it can bring something to the table.

Besides the "obvious" hobbies, I enjoy reading, watching various sports, playing instruments and maintaining a music collection that is most likely superior to yours in depth and breadth.

Favorite OS' are OS X and Linux 2.4.x. Favorite (practical...in that I use regularly) programming languages are Python and C++ (but learning to like Java...I guess). Favorite API is Cocoa.

Your opinions about Einstein@Home
I mainly run Einstein@home because I came across an artice on it and was shocked that my physics teacher is behind it all. Considering that I go to UWM I felt it was important to support this project in the minimal way I could.

I'm using a computer I only use for computer games for this project so I figured why waste all those cycles. I plan to throw my Apple laptop and my Linux machine onto this project as well as throw a few of the "apartment" computers onto this to maximize my output.

I'm not certain this project will work, but then I understand so little about it. It's a great use of resource and hopefully we get some unusual and unexpected results from the data that can possibly give us a view we could have never dreamed about. It would be really cool if my college was the center of an important scientific finding.

My only suggestion is to have the screensaver also spit out certain things it is crunching currently so we can look really smart to passersby.
