Your personal background.
Born in the mid 50's in the North Country of the Adirondacks, I grew up on the east coast of Lake Champlain, just an hour south of Montreal. I started building and fixing all things electric at the age of six, and I have kept at it since then, bringing me to a degree in systems electronics at the University of Rochester, and Engineering Courses of every kind from Tufts, MIT, Boston and Northeastern Universities. My favorite places include London, Dublin, San Francisco, and of course, Boston. My favorite hobbies are books, walks, hikes, bikes, and ecosystem microcosms.
Your opinions about Einstein@Home
I run Einstein at Home because I am very enthusiastic about the LIGO project, where I have been a contributing electronics engineer. I believe that LIGO is a very sound investment in the advancement of interferometry as well as gravitational physics. My principle suggestion is this: the US cannot afford to divest itself from basic research. The current hype about planning a manned mission to Mars is just that, hype. We can do much better research in our own back yard, whether at LIGO or a little further afield with LISA, and the investment and its return will be far more worthwhile.
