| Your personal background. |
I'm from Cape Town South Africa and an enthusiastic amateur astronomer. Actually, passionate is perhaps a better word than enthusiastic... Among others, my interest in astronomy and related subjects has brought me many friends all over the world. Participation in a collaborative project like this seems to make sense and makes me feel closer to those friends across the oceans.
I am an independent business consultant (marketing & public relations) and lecturer/trainer.
In addition to astronomy, I have a whole range of other hobbies that include music, reading (many subjects and genres) handicrafts, sewing, looking after my cats (they own me, I don't own them), (a bit of) gardening etc. Otherwise I spend time with family and slouch in front of the TV like the rest of you watching sport (cricket is my favourite) or movies or drama series or whatever takes my fancy at the time. And yes, I also often get square eyes and a sore neck from spending too much time with my computers and on the Internet. |
| Your opinions about Einstein@Home |
I sincerely hope that Einstein@home will be successful in providing useful information from the raw data and thus add in a meaningful way to the body of knowledge of the astronomical community.

I believe a lot of science will in future depend on neural networks like Boinc. I expect the well-known existing, successful projects, of which SETI@home is the grand daddy, will soon be joined by many others and soon it will become something that people simply have on their PCs - you would have your operating system, your regular software, and your collaboration programs, and the latter would not be "strange" or unusual any longer.
