Profile: Gerald Davies

Your personal background.
I am from Cardiff, Wales, in the United Kingdom. A thirty-something years old member of the GEO600/LSC collaboration. I am employed as a Linux Systems Administrator with the main emphasis of my work centred around the support of Linux HTC and HPC Beowulf clusters.

The clusters are turnkey solutions and those that I have developed using various Linux distributions. Maui/TORQUE (based on the original PBS) and Condor are used for scheduling jobs in a variety of languages. Other duties include user, job and large volume data management. Other tasks involve developing collaborative working tools and supporting the computing needs of other members of the Cardiff group.

Previously, I worked for a spin out company from Hewlett-Packard Research Labs known as Appliance Studio, based at Bristol University, in the United Kingdom.
Your opinions about Einstein@Home
I first heard about Einstein@Home by being part of the collaboration, however, it is only recently that I have started installing BOINC on machines available. My view is that if the computers are always on then the spare CPU cycles might as well be used for a good cause - I will probably attach it to other projects too at some point in the future.
