| Your personal background. |
I'm a physics PhD student at the Unversity of Cambridge, and founder of the university's E@H team. Although my current work is based on molecular dynamics, I have studied gravitational astrophysics in the past so gravitational wave detection is of particular interest to me. I'm also interested in harnessing the computational power of GPUs (Graphical Processing Units) in scientific calculations and simulations. See www.gpgpu.org.
My non-geeky interests are:
Sophie, my girlfriend (yes, scientists need love too... :-) )
Football (the proper sort... with a round ball and no kevlar suits), my team is Derby County (www.dcfc.co.uk)
Pool: 8-ball, 9-ball, I like them both
Comedy: Eddie Izzard, Jimmie Carr, Monty Python, The Young Ones, Bottom, Red Dwarf, Futurama, Family Guy, the list goes on...
So that's me in a nutshell. Thanks for reading. |
| Your opinions about Einstein@Home |
| I run E@H because I'm interested in the advancement of science, especially if I can help through the use of CPU time which would otherwise go to waste. I think it is a worthwhile project as it will hopefully give irrefutable evidence of gravitational waves and thus strengthen the theory of General Relativity. My only suggestion so far is that maybe idle GPU time could also be used to increase the amount of work done. |
