Profile: Gerald Peters

Your personal background.
Born in Ohio but raised in Minnesota I graduated with a BSEE degree from the U of MN in 1968. I began my career in computer maintenance and quickly moved into interface/communications design and development, then onto computer system design and eventually project management. When the opportunity arose, I joined a small biotech start-up company in the early 80’s and recently retired from my entrepreneurial duties. Hobbies include homebrew computers, web development, amateur radio (N0AGB) and both fresh and salt water fishing.
Your opinions about Einstein@Home
I've always been fascinated by every aspect about the structure of our universe - from the minutest of particles to the vastness of space, trying to comprehend our role in the scheme of things. When I joined Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1971, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. There I was in the forefront of space exploration – first with MVM 73 then VOL 75 and finally MJS 77, all spent on the design and implementation of ground and test telemetry systems. But – what a joy watching those first pictures of mars as they were being received. When I came across the Einstein project, well, it was a no-brainer. I can’t think of a better way to use the 99.999% of my computer’s idle time. I wish I had a similar project for myself.
