Profile: Davd W. Winchester

Your personal background.
Hi! David W. Winchester here. I am a science and astronomy buff. I have been a part of the SETI@Home project for several years and my processing totals under various accounts puts me in the top 1% of crunchers there. I joined BOINC in March '05 and am running both the SETI@Home and Einstein@Home projects. It is exciting for me to participate in these projects in even a small way and contribute to our exploration and understanding of space.

My current computer is a home-built AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton core with 1.2GB of RAM. I am now building an AMD 64 3.0 with 1.5GB RAM and am curious how the processing times will compare.

My other hobbies include amateur rocketry, amateur astronomy and motorcycle touring.
Your opinions about Einstein@Home
1. I am mainly interested in the SETI@Home project, but they have a lot of downtime so I decided to run a second project (Einstein@Home) to make sure I always have something crunching. I have devoted 50% to each project.

2. I think study of pulsars is important for several reasons, namely, these objects are amongst the furtherst that we can observe, due to their very precise rotational speed they make excellent markers in space (as per the Voyager plaque)and they are among the highest energy objects in the universe.

3. I have been having trouble processing units and have had to reset my project several times. Is there a bug-reporting facility?
