| Your personal background. |
"GRRO" stands for Grand Rapids Radio Observatory. This local west-Michigan based group was formerly known as "RAC" or Radio Astronomy Club. After a general lack of interest on the part of some members, the remaining group members re-defined the goals and objectives of the club and set out on a new mission to promote radio-astronomy to the public as a practical means of getting involved in every day science.
Our current projects consist of the following:
a) Building VLF(Very Low Frequency) antennas to observe and record disturbances in the atmosphere such as approaching storms, rocket launches, and meteorites. Our club's President has had his VLF antenna running for over two years now, while the Vice-President recent built his own and is now adding additional data to the records. Merging the two datasets is proving to be something of a challenge, but we believe we're equal to the task.
b) Building a network of 10' satellite dishes to observe, record and (potentially) discover pulsars. Our President has custom-written a piece of software to aid in the search. Our Vice-President recently picked up his own Unimesh dish and has a receiver on order, eagerly anticipating the opportunites for more observational data.
We have other projects of interest such as seismometers for recording ground-based events, and some ideas on building a form of bi-static radar.
Aside from the on-going education of our members, a primary goal is to bring about public awareness of science in general and get folks involved in the fun of learning. When given the opportunity, we appreciate the chance to present to local HAM groups and students.
Our website is at: http://www.grro.org

| Your opinions about Einstein@Home |
When we learned of the Einstein@Home project, we found it to be not only intriguing on its own merits, but interesting because we're already searching for pulsars on our own. In the interest of promoting science and scientific discovery, it seemed only proper that we put the computational power of some of our computers to work for the good of this project as well.
While personal recognition of discoveries can be its own reward, scientific discovery should be for the benefit of all, and thus our interest in the combined efforts of the many users working together in this project for the benefit of all mankind.
