Profile: MacDurk

Your personal background.
One could call me curious and inquisitive, given that I have had my fair share of memorable experiences over the past half century. I like a lot of different things: Experiencing life with my wife and kids; travel (I've been in 48 of 50 states in the USA, as well as Europe, East Europe and Russia); foreign languages (mainly Russian); bicycling (14,000+ miles over the years); Macintosh computers (for ease of use and user interface); and acting in Northern Virginia's community theatre (primarily at the Industrial Strength Theatre with Elden Street Players - ESP). As a character named Norman, I had fun getting fired multiple times for a TV sitcom pilot called Post House that may one day be aired beyond the AU screening theater. I started reading science fiction when I was 10, and wish I had more time to catch up on the latest books. Life is full of challenges and opportunities, and choices must thus be made.
Your opinions about Einstein@Home
Like many others, I started as a SETI@Home contributor, because I would like to believe that we are not alone in this vast Space. I branched out to Einstein@Home and Rosetta@Home when I realized I could contribute to more than one cause with my unused CPU cycles. I also want to contribute to long-term research in looking beyond our planet for interesting phenomena.

I find it fascinating to know that together, a community of individuals can look for waves that cannot be seen but still be perceived. Who knows, it may one day help some of those science fiction stories to become science reality.
