Profile: Elwood Downey

Your personal background.
I was born in 1955 in Cedar Rapids, IA, USA. I graduated with highest distinction from Purdue with a BSEE in 1977. Purdue gave me an excellent start on a wonderful career in engineering. I still recommend the school to anyone who asks. I have worked on both electronics hardware and software in the application domains of medical imaging and avionics but the one I enjoy the most is astronomical instrumentation. I am currently the lead systems engineer on a 2.4m fast-tracking telescope being built in central New Mexico. First light is scheduled for September 2006.
Your opinions about Einstein@Home
I ran seti@home classic for several years. When they switched to BOINC I decided to add another project. Now I run both. The search for gravity waves is worth while to further our understanding of relativity and the forces at work to shape the universe.
