Just so you furriners

Just so you furriners understand, not all us 'Muricans love it.

I for one am glad that the stupor bowl has passed.

(But then, this could just as easily apply to what the rest of you call football too.)

If you want to see how nutty

If you want to see how nutty Americans are about football, take a trip around Pittsburgh one day. I was totally amazed!! But I'll tell you what's even less exciting than football and that's cricket.

"You have two sides, one out and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game".

With some differences, that could also be a summary of baseball.

As a character in Patriot Games said of cricket, "You mean it has rules? Why spoil it with rules?"

Seti's still down, so I'll put this here. Felix the (station) Cat. I'm not sure whether to put it under cats or trains anyway. Now I'll have a couple more hours to think about it.

And Felix couldn't have a finer station to be in charge of.

Huddersfield railway station (about 20 miles away from me, same county)

So does Felix have to wear the bright jacket ? The mice will say "aha ! We can see that jerk now ....."

Huddersfield. You've got your plinths and your columns and all the Greco-Roman stuff. Very monolithic.

Cheers, Mike.

The wide open space is St George's Square, home to a statue of Harold Wilson (labour prime minister), and the George Hotel, where rugby league broke away from rugby union so that the players could be paid.
