Topic 198662

Two hosts (4546148 and 12286240) are running properly with EVGA GTX 760 and Nvidia driver 368.39 (DDL from Nvidia).
Now I have prepared another host (12039369) with 3 identical EVGA GTX 760 with water-cooling (CPU and GPUs).

System:
- MB GA-Z170X-GamingG1 (rev.1), Bios F7, all MB-drivers newest
- i7-6700K
- 4 x 4GB Corsaire DDR4-3200 / PC4-25600 DDR4 SDRAM UDIMM (compatible with MB)
- Windows 7 PRO 64-Bit

The problem: After installing Nvidia driver 368.39 and rebooting the system
- I get a "black" monitor - no Boot-Logo, no Windows startup, simply nothing !
- Debug-Code 6F "hanging" - only Hard-Restart or Hard-Shutdown possible

After rebooting the system shows the usable selection of restarting options like after a crash.
That means: System tried to start Windows but wasn't able to do so.
Secure Mode (Abgesicherter Mode) brings up the same "black screen".
No more possibility to start BIOS-Setting !

I couldn't find any way to restart the system with a normal screen, no desktop, no input possible.
What I did (had to do) was reinstalling ... but it stucks always with the same Debug-Code 6F after installing a Nvidia driver. !

What I could do is to try several other Nvidia graphics drivers, but I'm tired with reinstalling Windows again and again.

Any Idea how to go out of this blind alley ?

Thanks,
Arthur

Strange problem with Nvidia Graphics Driver(s)

Sounds like a BIOS problem rather than a Windows driver issue to me.
Have you overclocked? Maybe you can do a reset to defaults with a jumper? Or just pop the battery.
Did you flash the BIOS? Maybe possible to revert to old version if the MB supports dual BIOS.
What happens if you pull the graphics cards and just use the one built into the CPU?

Could you try another type of

Could you try another type of display connector on the card end?
Which driver version did Windows initially install for the Nvidia? I updated Insider builds yesterday and Windows wanted to force Nvidia cards the driver version 368.20. It seems to be working alright. But if I wanted to update that to something, I would try 368.22 because that's the newest shown version at the Vulkan page: https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver

Funny... a few hours later...

Funny... a few hours later... I think I experienced something similar. I saw there was a new Windows 10 build available. So, I updated 14371 --> 14372. After this update Nvidia display driver version was still 380.20. At this point everything was fine, but I got an idea to try Nvidia version 386.22 (which I suggested earlier).

I used DDU and chose to restart into Safe Mode. Great. I got nothing on the screen anymore. No system texts that normally could be seen during the boot up. Can't enter bios. Nothing. How is this even possible... I wonder.

Interestingly this host also is equipped with GTX 760 cards (not connected with SLI bridge). I tried DP and DVI connectors of the first card plus also DP on the second card. Got only black screen... and then I gave up and went to sleep, but left the computer on (I wasn't sure if it was doing anything). When I woke up this morning there was still black screen.

Then I remembered I hadn't tried the DVI on the second card... and it worked! Instantly got picture on the screen again. I don't know if HDMI would had worked also.

So, I want to share a warning. If you have multiple Nvidia cards installed in one host and don't have other cables than DP available, you might end up with non-usable computer for a while. "Don't fix it if it works"...

@Logforme and Richie: Thank

@Logforme and Richie: Thank you for taking your time !

Sorry for my late answering, but this kind of tinkering is very time consuming ...

After trying out all your sugestions and some drivers I initialized PCIe Slot 2 as the initial video card in the Bios options and connected DVI to the second GTX760. Windows started and informed me kindly about a missing SLI-Bridge. I do not need it, I thought, and at this moment the buddy stuck out his tongue to me with a blue screen. Several tries without success. Ok, I ruminated, if you like I can spend you such a SLI-Bridge ! He was happy with and rewarded me with a nearly smooth Windows. At this time I had installed driver 368.22 but - as in your case - I wanted to go a step ahead and installed the newest driver 368.39 ... all ist working now properly. No idea about reason for this !

I'm happy with, because of loosing control over myself I have not the time to open the window before throwing out the mainboard like a UFO, then I had not only to pay for a new MB but also for a new window :-)

Again, thousand thanks !
Arthur
