Well it looks like all of your results have been from the same data file. Three of them have been submitted, and it shows this one as pending: http://einsteinathome.org/workunit/1683247

Now I notice that the latest work unit is from a different data file. I would guess that the 8MB download was the new data file, and the old file was deleted because you had just finished the last (required) work unit in it.

What seems strange to me is that the server told the client to delete the file, but following that link above it shows the result as pending. If it connected to the server, it should surely have posted the result.

I am new, so I don't know quite how it works. Try an 'update', that should hopefully post the result, the result that completed at around 22:00. Or if no result finished then I don't know what's going on.

It just mean that there is no more work from file w1_0761.5 that can be sent out to you. The client is told to delete that file then the last WU on your host that need that file is done.

Then you're really interested in a subject, there is no way to avoid it. You have to read the Manual.

Would it delete that file before the result from the final work unit was posted?

Al results needing that file

Al results needing that file will upload before the file is deleted.

Take a look at the BOINC WIKI for more info.

It doesn't seem to have done that in this case. It looks like this one is from the same file but hasn't been submitted.

That was what I found strange. If it deleted the file it should surely have sent the result.

What we can see hear is only

What we can see hear is only if the result is reported or not. The client will delete the file as soon as it have uploaded the last result. It can be days from that the result is uploaded till it is reported.

Okay, I didn't know that. It isn't like that all the time obviously. What is it doing (meaning, why does it take long to be reported)?

Before you answer, I'll look in the BOINC WIKI.

From the

Message 14999 in response to message 14998

From the WIKI:

Quote:
The message "Got server request to delete file '(file-name)'" doesn't mean that a file is immediately deleted.

That would explain it. It is just a notification that no more work units from that data file will be forthcoming. So the last result could still be busy when it shows that message.

I do also see that the reporting process is separate. Thank you, Ziran.

Before you had finished that last work unit, it connected to request more work. There were no more work units from that data file, so the client received a message to that effect. It showed in the messages, that it should delete the old datafile. Of course, you were still busy with it, but when you finished and uploaded the results, the old datafile was deleted.

The message you saw was the client notification that there were no more work units from that file. As Ziran said, when you upload the results it can take a while for it to be reported as being received. In this case, you hadn't sent it yet, but it could have been either scenario.
