Halley's Comet passed in 1747 for the first time since Halley identified it, and 2 Christmas Mondays hence was 1775, 17 years, but it's not a person and so not born or dead.

Upon further reflection, after previewing but before posting, if it is 17 Mondays after their birthday, then I believe that would make the date of death somewhere in the range of April 24-30.

Sounds delicious. Makes me want waffles (and not just the things in the box in the back of my freezer that I pop into the toaster, real ones made from scratch. Not enough to dig out the waffle iron and clean it, though.

I only saw it as an "event on this day" as I was looking for Monday December 25 birthdays. I didn't research it any further.

So. Annie hasn't responded yet to my guess of Peter Reesor, but I will go ahead with another one anyway, although she will probably be offended by what I say, even after I preface with the supposition that I'm probably wrong again.
I see a (small) possibility that she is confusing two John Fitzgeralds. One was the 15th Knight of Kerry and a member of the Irish House of Commons and may have died at age 34 (or 35; Wikipedia doesn't know his birthday, only his death day). The other was born on Dec. 25, 1775 (which year we already know doesn't hold with Annie's 17th birthday clue) and elected MP for Seaford, later serving as High Sheriff of County Waterford. He lived much longer than 34 years, though.
However, as much as she might act like it, I don't think Annie really is scatterbrained enough to have made that error. (That ought to keep her from clobbering me with a frying pan, or Julie's or Uli's rolling pin.)

It just occurred to me that I was born in December in a year in which Christmas was on a Monday, and also that the year I turned 17 was the second such year since. However, as I am living considerably farther past Joan than Annie indicated for the proper date range, and more to the point, am still living (and hope to for some years to come), I highly doubt that she has me in mind.
