@David Sounds like some of

@David

Sounds like some of the days I've had. Sometimes a railroad refuses to work like a well oiled machine.

I wouldn't say our situations are any worse or better than the other. We have cantankerous long trains (my personal record is 13,000 ft long) and you have passengers. I've always been a people person but putting up with passengers might push my buttons more than I like.

My biggest pet peeve is having a good run home then sitting in a siding for hours waiting to go the last few miles. The worst example of this was pulling into New Haven pass after a 4 hour run home. We sat there for 8 hours waiting until we ran out of hours of service and they swapped us with another crew. The entire 8 hour wait I was a 10 minute walk from my home! Ah, the joys of incompetent management.

But, like I say at work all the time, to those who do nothing but complain. It's not so bad considering we could all be digging ditches for a living.

Side note: My record train weight is 22.5 thousand tons. 45 million pounds. Maybe those passengers ain't so bad... :-)

Since you've been down here to the museum, maybe next year I can make it up there and go for a ride on one of your runs. A lot of that old iron is some neat stuff.

Our train lengths are

Our train lengths are generally restricted to the capacity of our passing siding, about 10 coaches plus power. Stopping 22.5K tons does not sound like fun... but at least you have an air pressure gauge to look at. From the rear, all I have is a blind tailhose. No wonder Amtrak doesn't do it that way!

And walking the set and release on that monster freight... all the way down each side twice comes out to 10 miles! Ugh!!!!! There is a reason I didn't go into this as my profession.

If you come, let me know. Even if I'm not on that day, I'll come out.

This weekend has gone from good to bad to better than originally. I was supposed to conduct an L train on Sunday. That was cancelled for no qualified crews. I was put on the streetcar. I asked if I could do it Saturday instead. He said sure, and the streetcar is cancelled, so you can have unofficial training on a different streetcar, which goes out on the mainline. I've been eligible for training on that since May, but nobody has offered training. I have a feeling I'll be good enough to qualify in one day... if someone will sign off on me.

I'm having an "interesting"

I'm having an "interesting" w/e to say the least :-) I think by the end of it a lot of people including me will know finally where they stand. Enigmatic? Oh yes indubitably. Definitely stirred but not shaken. Sorry James for taking liberties!

Talking of trains, next Spring I am booking to go on this Venice-Simplon Wanted to do it for 40 years. Now that is what you call a proper train!

Waiting for Godot & salvation :-)

Well, I was quite looking

Well, I was quite looking forward to improving my face again with a surgical mask yesterday - but I was refused entry to the critical care unit under suspicion of being diseased myself.

*sad blink*

The nurse was a little taller than me, so may have seen my noshed-on head, I don't know... Anyway! :) I will be here plaguing boinc land instead today. I may even drop in here with another clue later :)

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

Don't forget that you improve

Don't forget that you improve in the dark. Perhaps you could have asked them to turn the lights off before they let you in?

Hey, no plagues here if one doesn't mind, the last one in 1665 left nobody to remove the empties from the bar. Now plaques we can come to an agreement on I think. A nice tasteful blue one affixed outside comes to mind. Wording to be finalised.

OK - While I still have RAC to post with; here I am... :-)

Good evening everyone. :-)

Been awhile since I've been in here.

I see that my fears have been realized; and, I still have no clue to what Annie's clues are. :-O

WOW, go figure... A confused Doctor. That doesn't happen often.

Being after 11 PM; it is way past bedtime... Goodnight everyone. :-)
