yes but they don't provide DNS names or IP addresses for me to try pinging. I think I'm being blocked locally but don;t know what IP:port combinations to test to verify that .

It could also be that Windows

It could also be that Windows did an update of itself which activated something in the firewall that was previously off.

The error system connect means that the BOINC client couldn't connect to the IP address that the DNS server gave to BOINC.
You could try a reboot of the system.
You could try to flush the DNS cache in Windows: Start->Run, type cmd, press OK. In the command line window that opens, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter. That flushes the DNS Resolver cache.

If you use a router, make sure nothing changed in there either. TCP port 80 must allow incoming connections as well. No need for it to be completely open, stealth is enough.

Last thing it could be is that an internet node between you and Einstein is out. Then you can only wait.

The IP address for Einstein is 129.89.61.70

The log messages tell us that

The log messages tell us that BOINC isn't even able to reach "reference site", I think it tries to reach google.com or similar stuff to check if it's a problem with the project site or the internet connection in general.

Is this correct?

Surfing the web is possible from that host, so network card etc must be fine.

Proxy?

If you are using Internet explorer, check the Internet Settings -> Connections -> Lan Setting (???somethink like that, I don't have a Windows PC at hand right now).

If there's a HTTP proxy configured, you will need to configure one in BOINC as well.

If it's not for the proxy, the personal firewall comes to mind, and there's not much more I can think of that could go wrong :-(

There's no proxy setup on my

Message 73207 in response to message 73206

There's no proxy setup on my internet connection, and I can't connect to any other BOINC projects either. I tried attaching to each one in the list and all failed to connect. I think I'm being blocked from above by IT. Also my RSS ticker can't connect to any feeds, so there's another thinkg they've blocked. All this stuff was working fine as late as Wed this week. We just moved into a new building and they're starting to get really strict on security policies. I guess I will have to leave BOINC for good.
