I want to hear a work unit

Topic 229631

Hi, i would like to hear one unit.

How can i convert a copy of the data? I assume the WUs are real data.

Maybe there is a way to convert the data into audible zone, into a wav and then to open it in Audacity?

If it is not possible for me, maybe someone from the team could convert a positive file into a short audio file for us to listen to?

Thanks for reading and i wish you happy crunching!

Stefan

Are you looking for some

Are you looking for some tangible representation of the data you're crunching? :)

I think you could do it but it would, I think, be rather anticlimactic for the amount of effort it would take. They are looking for the tiniest patterns in a sea of comparatively very loud noise. So unfiltered (which basically the WU's are) you might as well listen to white noise. You're certainly not going to pick anything other out of that by ear, our human sensors are way too limited for that. And unfiltered, well, that has already been done. For example: The Sound Of Pulsar Stars - YouTube

If you still want it for the heck of it, I wish you luck! :)

Thank you for the answer and for this good explanation of the data. Now, i understand it better. I think it would be enough, in this case, just to listen to the pulsar in the link, you provided.

White noise, would be a boring experience. I am not Jodie Foster.

Happy crunching
