Cheers, Mike.

You may :) Well... I suppose that is another way of saying that my previous offering was NOT the word you were looking for *wounded sniff*

impi-shambeiosu Zulu square dance
beiu-shipmimosa variety of leguminous plant used as flotation devices by New Orleans' ants
Beam-ishImpious Roman emperor scrubbed from the history books due to his irreverential attitude to toga's
Abei-PossumMihi - chant which immediately precedes Australians suddenly prostrating themselves in front of the largest possum they have encountered that day

Oh... where did that come from ? ... -> ... semi-amphibious well that can't be right... :)

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

It bloody well is!

WE HAVE A WINNER !!

and +1 for Abei-PossumMihi. That's a state secret DownUnda ( the whole possum worship thingy ) so your sources are evidently top notch. :-)

Aside : I have a problem with the word semi-amphibious actually. I mean 'amphibious' = can go on land and water. So what can be semi about that ? If you knock out the land bit then you're aquatic, if you knock out the water bit you're on land. Can one be awful at both ? But then that would be neither ....

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Maybe it means that the creature can only do one state or the other for a fixed period of time, not indefinitely. Or is that part and parcel of being amphibious anyway?

Well if it's something like a duck that floats just below the surface it sounds like an evolutionary dead end to me...

...poor thing :(

*pause for minute's silence*

...unless it stays on land of course. Oh.

*review appropriateness of prior silence* ... well... *blink companionably at einsteinians* there's another minute we won't be getting back peoples...

Anyway...

...I think I'm getting my aquaticans mixed up with my amphibiousans...

... *tap finger whilst waiting for Abei-PossumMihi chanting to end*

Maybe it's more to do with feet, David... you know... as opposed to a whole creature... *try lop-sided frown... just to see what happens* *[note to self for future]do more lop-sided frowns[/note]* not sure how that would work in practice... also not sure whether I'm supposed to start a new thread or not... so I've decided I won't :)

Ooh... now that's a tricky one... *lop-sided frown* ... um... left! No. Middle. No no left! I sense *sigh - lugubrious mode* that my Australian citizenship application won't be successful somehow...

Oh... before I forget. Your new word people :)

bbceeimnrstuu

You will be thrilled to know it was a completely new one to me too... I think :) And I have absolutely no idea how to pronounce it either...

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

Sigh. Abei-PossumMihi can be

Sigh. Abei-PossumMihi can be tiring you know. I mean in the earlier part of the day you don't necessarily know the first one you meet is going to be the largest one, do you ? So you have to prostrate* yourself anyway just to cover the case where you might not see a larger one later. If you're lucky enough to see a really big one first up then you have greater confidence of meeting relatively smaller ones from then on. [ In statistics they call this regression to the mean ] Now one could write an app to record your possum encounters, but you still leave the possibility of ring-ins ( & mostly ringtails ) turning up from out of town. I know what you're thinking and you are quite correct : we haven't actually resolved the question as to whether you go back and un-prostrate yourself to the prior smaller ones, when you later found a larger one. Don't laugh. Just because we secretly worship possums doesn't mean that we have to be crap at it !

There. I've said it all. Now what's that black helicopter doing circling around outside ... I'm sure I'd armed the lasers ....

Cheers, Mike.

* Yes, it does have an 'r' in it.

Yeah. You get that. I reported you to customs & immigration months ago.

You sure they got the report? *narrow eyes*

UK home office immigration van has been parking outside my house for several weeks now... most intimidating... *place walking aids in defensive formation*

I thought perhaps they were shoving their surveillance camera's into someone else's life but perhaps not...

*pop-eyed ponder*

Don't suppose you can remember exactly what it was you said...?

[open anniet internal thought processing system] *prepare for long wait whilst Mike churns through what he calls "his brain"* [/system] SNORT ... beg my pardon... sudden catastrophic nose failure. It happens.

Was it something to do with this...

All that I said was "... she's one to watch ...". That's all. Nuthin else ... honest. Truly ruly. I swear on Kylie Minogue that I only said that. Are there any possums sitting in the van** ? :-)

Right. You asked for it. I'm going to get The Paper Squares out now! AND I'll mark them with those very letters ! :-) :-)

[virtual video]
I'm going to the cupboard now. I've chosen some paper. Cutting, cutting and cutting. Large and equal squares. Now selecting a pen. Nice color and handling that one. See? Writing the letters now. One letter only per square. One side only too. Writing, writing, writing ... in English .... done ! See how pretty they are ? Take squares back to desk. Put pen away. Now play with squares. The desk. On the desk Mike. Letters facing upwards for preference ...
[/virtual video*]

CurtBumBeesIn - A new political party has been elected, composed of short-tempered heavy insects.

MeCureBubNits - A weekly high point of paediatric practice.

BrineCubesMut - A dog that likes frozen salt water.

MiceTubbRunes - Rodent bath markings.

MIBNeutersCub - Well, they thought he was an alien scout.

MincerSubTube - A component of a butchery machine.

ISnubCremeBut - On the other hand I dislike a certain dairy product.

UBentCrimeBus - As it was later alleged in court.

TenMiceSuburb - This is rather lower than the national average.

UberNimbusEtc - You know, those really great clouds.

BTBunCrimesEU - A new bakery scandal on the continent from the known underworld ( plus await Annie Apoplexy ).

NuubiBetsMerc - an unlikely wager from a newcomer.

Cheers, Mike.

* Can you tell the difference b/w that and an actual video ? :-) :-)

( edit ) You didn't think you'd get away that lightly did you ? ....

UberUmbiCents - A new online currency where one trades in superior belly buttons.

INumbCusterBe - His actual last words at Little Big Horn.

BiteNCurseBum - There are many conditions leading to this behaviour, and not just in dogs.

TubbiMensCure - aka : stop drinking so much beer ...

BTRuinsMeCube - is there nothing they will not plunder ?

BTCurseMeBin - well I left a 'U' out, but it is still true. They did.

BTRueMiceSnub - Way to go! Payback via murine anger.

NiceEmuBrutBS - False advertising about a flightless bird deodorant.

CuteMurinesBB - overnight accommodation for easy-on-the-eye rodents

( edit ) Personally I think UberUmbiCents deserves a +1 .... :-)

** Silly me. Sorry. They'd be in the trees holding the directional microphones and the long lens cams. Well duh .... is there nothing Google cannot divulge ? Second hit for image search on 'possum holds camera' :

There would be so many more fun possibilities if there were 2 Ts.

I was going to explore the possibilities of cumberbund, but I didn't get to it.
