Bipolar : no one is exempt from risk, but the blight of comedians especially. They are really funny when they are 'up' and hence succeed very well in that line of work ie. rise to the top. Often begins in their childhood but is not described as such because of general cultural aversion to discussing mental illness, and thus more so denied in kids. Often with genetic implications. Various drugs exacerbate the mood swinging in rate and amplitude. Many sufferers resist treatment even though the terrible lows are mitigated, as they miss the sheer buzz of the highs.

( edit ) Actually I have him off lead at a little used park up near our local water supply reservoir. He investigates rabbit dwellings, kangaroo bivouacs, wombat trails and has a general upside-down roll on all things smelly.

"nanu nanu" and the movie Patch Adams were two of my favorite things from him, but he did MANY others too!! I guess his struggles in his private life just showed how hard he pushed to make all of us laugh. A Doctor, who was treating him in the past at a clinic, yesterday said he had a 'chemical imbalance' and that he wouldn't stop drinking, which would lead to more 'chemical imbalance'. I have no idea what that means, it could mean he was an alcoholic for all I know, but he sure did make great comedy!!! They said he was one of the first to make Johnny Carson laugh so hard he thought he was going to split wide open, this while they were on the air!!
His "Chemical Imbalance" is a polite way of saying he had Bi-Polar disorder. Why Hollywood hides this fact in its actors and actresses is beyond me. Bi-Polar needs to be seriously talked about and treated.

I had no idea the two were synonymous!! You are right it would be MUCH better if they used better words, and used them more often!! One way to get enough public help for a problem is too bring it into the open IMHO. Just look at breast cancer, EVERYONE has heard of it now, yet when I was growing up it was not even a thought process! AND people are even beginning to know that MEN can get it too!!
