I have just noticed some extra long WU's have been completed on one of my computers (P4/2.6GHz),
Computer ID : 892164
Work unit ID's
30562715
30561794
Just over 60,000 secs each (just under 17hrs) and have about 8 more on the machine.
They have been validated and been given the standard 54.24 cr for the WU (about 3.25 cr/hr). These WU's usually finish in about 21,500 secs.
Are these a new batch or is there something wrong with the machine?

New Extra long W/U's?

I would suggest it's your machine, the other machine paired with you did them in a lot less time.
Something has gone awry on that computer.
I received three work units
)
I received three work units in the last day or so, each estimated to need 99h 40m to run. My poor old machine will never finish them, so I aborted each. According to my results page, they're 33395920, 33400191, and 33400213. I've temporarily stopped accepting new work from Einstein@Home. (Hate to do it, but if they won't do anything useful, it's the right thing to do!)
Is there something I can do to get smaller units? (I haven't changed any preferences recently. Or, at least, not intentionally!)
Thanks in advance.
The new units are a lot

The new units are a lot bigger. No way to ask for smaller. Kind of need faster machines, to do work, now, or very dedicated older machines.

For 313.89 credit....
On the 2-4 hour WU's I could amass about 800-1000 credits/day but these work units must be dealt with differently for credit...??
As much I hate to cancel WU's and I know i shouldn't be worried about the credit i get but it shows the work i do for others to see at the end of the day.

Correct. Einstien was granting roughly 1/3rd more credit for an equivilant amount of CPU time than most projects on boinc so the average credit per hour numbers were reduced for s5r2. These apps aren't as highly optimized as the s5r1 one was and consequently there's alot more spread between different OS/CPU platforms depending on how well the compiler did at making the assembler and how well the CPUs onboard optimizers handle it. My c1d/win32 is down about 25%, my a64x2/win32 machines are down about 40%. I've been told, but haven't been able to test that a64/linux32 is almost as fast as with sr51.
The alternative view is that

The alternative view is that other projects were not granting enough credit.

Would you still crunch EAH if it didn't give credit at all?
RE: RE: The alternative
)
Probably not, but that does not mean, as it is clear you mean to imply, that I am a "credit whore". It is not unreasonable for someone to expect some token of gratitude. The credit system also spurs on competition and, quite frankly, is in the best interest of the projects because said competition means that the projects receive increasingly larger amounts of processing power.
No, Jord, my statement was to point out that there are two ways of looking at the situation. The view that the other projects need to elevate their credits instead of EAH (and then SAH because they'll be pressured into following suit)lowering theirs, is a more positive view. Moving upwards, instead of downwards.
I have already stated in the Einstein Forums as well as over in the SETI forums that I was considering stopping SETI because I didn't see the scientific merits of it near-term and because they already have plenty of volunteers anyway. Edit: Not to mention that the higher amount of credit for me is obtained at SETI, not here at Einstein, so if I was "only in it for the credits", then why would I even be here?
You tried before to use the "nobody is forcing you" line on me. Now you are trying the "only in it for credits" approach on me. Might I respectfully suggest that you try being a bit more positive yourself. If you cannot be, put me in your filter.
Thanks,
Brian

Please don't put words in my mouth. It was an honest question. If I wanted to call you a credit whore, I wouldn't hide it behind another question, but just tell you you're in it for the credits.
Since I didn't do so, but just asked if you would still crunch for this (or indeed any other) project if there were no credits given away, the first part of your answer answered that. No need to get angry.
As for being positive and putting people on filter, you are still someone whose views I want to read. If on the other hand you can't take questions, then maybe you should put me on filter or look at the world a bit more positive. There's more out there than BOINC. :-)
As for the credits, if I would care about them, I wouldn't crunch for alpha and beta projects where I never get a thing. In my humble opinion, we could do without them. Let's see who stays to actually try to help the project and/or BOINC to get things done/bugs fixed. At times they bring more grief than joy anyway. Some people don't even want to talk to you on forums because you lack credit/RAC. Others don't even want you on their team for that reason. Not really friendly. ;-)

Fair enough. Sorry. I've been around the block before and have seen that question asked before (by others) and it traditionally progresses into that type of discussion.
Actually, you didn't state "or indeed any other" until just now...
In the event that no project offered credit, then I would have answered that I would've then selected what I did based on what I viewed as the scientific merit. If Orbit@Home was up, that's where all of my effort would be, regardless of the credit.
