hi,
i just got this error when a result finished while defraging the boinc HD :

-Einstein@Home - 2005-01-13 16:19:54 - Computation for result H1_0052.4__0052.9_0.1_T01_Test03 finished

-Einstein@Home - 2005-01-13 16:19:54 - Starting result H1_0058.4__0058.9_0.1_T01_Test03_0 using einstein version 4.71

-Einstein@Home - 2005-01-13 16:19:54 - Unrecoverable error for result H1_0052.4__0052.9_0.1_T01_Test03_1 (Output file error: -1)

could this be because the disk was defraging at that moment? otherwise i dont have any real problems .

possible defrag bug ?

I think this _could_ well be. However it depends on your (file-)system and the program you are using for defragmenting.

diskkeeper pro 8 with ntfs

diskkeeper pro 8 with ntfs file system is used (winxp)

strange thing, no problems with diskkeeper otherwise.

I would be glad if I could say this about BOINC...

Do I detect a note of pre-launch stress creeping in here? ;-)

Keep it up you're doing just great.

I've had a lot of problems

I've had a lot of problems running Diskeeper and Boinc, normally I just have the /boinc/ directory excluded, and every week or two I shut down Boinc to defrag it.

I *always* suspend boinc

I *always* suspend boinc before defragging. I run analyse first, w/o suspending, and only 'suspend/defrag/run always' if defragging is recommended. Its a hangover from the CPDN days when a defrag-induced error could lose me a month's work. Never had a problem with a 'boinc suspended' defrag.

I have it set to defrag

I have it set to defrag automatically, so I need to have Boinc excluded. However, it is often the boinc directories that are the most fragmented. Also noted a 1 second increase in timestep performance with CPDN after a defrag, I don't know how much it would help other projects.

It is NOT your defrag. I never defrag while running apps and got the same problem today with the new version of BOINC and Einstein 4.71...see below.....

Einstein@Home - 2005-01-14 09:56:58 - Computation for result H1_0099.9__0100.0_0.1_T02_Test03 finished

Einstein@Home - 2005-01-14 09:56:58 - Unrecoverable error for result H1_0099.9__0100.0_0.1_T02_Test03_4 (Output file error: -1)

I hope you also posted this in the Question/Problem forum.

To your info: I'm just

To your info: I'm just testing automatic-defrag at some of my boxes for round about 7 - 10 days. Until now, I didn't watch this problem.

All boxes are running CPDN / E@H / P@H

I will keep an eye on it

Supporting BOINC, a great concept !
