Hi!

Decided to try the CUDA drivers for my Mac Pro W3520 Xeon with a 512MB nVidia GT120 video card in it. I can't seem to get ABPS workunits to complete. They end at 3 minutes 50 seconds into the calculations with a computation error.

I saw the earlier thread about nVidia CUDA issues on a Mac, but I am running 6.10.43 so the libraries should be in the correct locations. Not sure though, 'cause I haven't checked the stderr or anything. Not sure I remember enough about *nix to find it, either.

Actually, I'm thinking that with the GT120 it's best to not run the CUDA drivers at all. Everything seemed to be fine before just running off the CPUs.

Any suggestions on how to clear this up before I jerk the CUDA drivers out?

Thanks!

You don't need unix knowledge, just follow this link ;-)

Thanks, Gundolf. That helps, of course - I see that there is an issue with FFT processing for workunit 72921637:

[02:25:53][6598][INFO ] Seed for random number generator is -1137002519.
[02:25:54][6598][ERROR] Error creating CUDA FFT plan (error code: 2)
[02:25:54][6598][ERROR] Demodulation failed (error: 1011)!
[02:25:54][6598][WARN ] CUDA memory allocation problem encountered!
------> Returning control to BOINC, delaying restart for at least five minutes...
------> If this problem persists you should consider aborting this task.

I'll have to do more digging. I've gone ahead and turned off GPU processing in preferences. At least that way I don't screw anything up....

Thanks!

Jon

This post/thread may be a place to start. It could just be a case of insufficient memory on your graphics card. A lot people with 512MB seem to have been here (me included).

The thread also mentions Mac specific problems. May help.
