I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Chicago Transit Authority has always been notorious for buses being bunched up, but now they have real-time GPS tracking available to both managers and the public. You can check your smart phone and see where the next bus (or train) is and when it will arrive at your stop.
We seem to have a halfway system here. The buses have transponders, and the bus stops have receivers. As a bus arrives at a stop it's location is recorded in the system. Programmed in are the standard journey times between stops. So the time until the next bus is displayed on countdown timers at those stops where they have them. At other stops you text the stop number to control and it texts you back the time until the next bus.
But of course if there is an RTA or roadworks etc between stops, the timers count down to zero and no bus arrives! Er bus No.43 arrived at stop 18 but hasn't checked in at stop 19. Hey we lost a bus!!
