Because of your rule about

Because of your rule about not being allowed to put more than two consonents together, and that other one... ordering us to keep the vowels apart, I sense you won't be too pleased to see this, David.

TSPNATOHAIS - so I'm not even going to bother telling you what it means.

No. And anyway... the letters: A; H; I; N; O; P; S; and T no longer exist...

*frazzled frown*

A lot of horrible things happened with my exclusion matrix thingy last night.

I thought I knew what I was doing:

Quote:

T_ _ _ A T O _ _ I _ (AHNPSS)

T _ P _ A T O _ _ I _ ...... (AHNSS)

T _ _ N A T O _ _ I _ ...... (AHPSS)

T _ _ _ A T O _ _ I S ...... (AHNPS)

I really did. Till this point ^^^

and then there were suddenly an awful lot of T's. So I fixed them. Thoroughly. Obliterationally in fact. The rest you already know because I told you up there...

Given my initial confidence in this: "T_ _ _ A T O _ _ I _" I did try salvaging something from the wreckage awhile later... bit by *grit teeth a-n-d smiiile* painful bit... as you can see:

Ta ............. HNPSS
Th ..............ANPSS
Tn ..............AHNPSS definitely not
Tp ..............AHNPSS nope
Ts ..............AHNPSS not with this arrangement

Which wasn't much of a flying start... particularly after I abandoned it almost straight away and went for the end instead...

AHNPSS ........IA oh bleuch etc etc

*much muttering later*

SO!

TA _ _ A T O _ _ I _

....IN HPPS ....IP HNSS ....IS HNPS
TAPPATOSHIN - the foolish belief that hitting one nail with a hammer will drive it into a surface without crushing at least one thumb once and littering the work area with a variety of semi-mutilated bent ones.

....IP HNSS ...ship NS .....snip HS ...sip HNS (bleuch)
TANSATOSHIP - a kind of tug used to position ships armed with ONAPTHAPISS good find by the way... :)
TASHATOSNIP - a trim given to toe hair
TASHATONSIP - soothing post tonsillectomy syrup designed to be dribbled or spilled into moustache's, beards, and hair with express purpose of creating diversionary pain from the throat area with the simple addition of a comb

Or: THA _ A T O _ _ I _ (NPSS)
THAPATONSIS
THANATOSPIS
THANATOPSIS
THASAT0NPIS

Which I haven't had a chance to look up definitions of yet because there's been a minor distractionary disaster *gaze cow-eyed at einsteinians* which feels somewhat major, even though it really isn't :((

I'm only posting this to avoid absorbing the full import of it for awhile...

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

RE: ONAPTHAPISS : an early

Quote:

ONAPTHAPISS : an early form of .... errr ... Greek Fire. As used against the Persians in the Battle of Salamis, the origin and formulation of which is now not quite so obscure thanks to me. :-)

Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) Hmmmm ... line ball there. You may have to moderate yourself Mike. See if anyone hits the red 'X' shall we ?

( edit ) Actually it looks like he is holding the other guy by the legs, but with his feet chopped off, and it is his blood being sprayed at the other ship. That other guy is looking at him and saying "Must you ? Really ? That's my feet you've just hacked off."

At first glance, I thought you were remarkably close to correct, other than having pulled an extra P out of somewhere. But then I checked where I have the word written down and you're really not that close at all. Don't think too much harder, though, because Annie is very close. As close as she was with my last one, in fact.

Not a rule, advice.

You noticed it then... do I get another minus five points for quoting it?

Oh. Okay... well I tried doing that thing you told me to do before

And got this.... THAPATONSIS, but it seems no one knows about it yet apart from myself, although some people seem to know of this one:

THANATOPSIS

I'm not sure if they're a particularly cheerful lot meditating as they do on death...

So. Is that the right one? :)

Good to hear you're feeling better today, David, but take very good care with that hip, please :)

Well... you're about to find out...

The new word is: ABCEEILLORT

*rain down good wishes upon all who tangle with it*

That's not a clue. That's just me trying to be nice to logoleptics.

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

Hmmmmm. Half the internet doesn't even know what 'logoleptic' means. But the part that does hovers around :

Quote:
A word maniac or someone who has seizures about words

which I think would be quite apt if we adopt that definition for our purposes.

As for ABCEEILLORT, I am going to get out My Paper Squares ..... :-)

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

TreacleLobi : new political group advancing the cause of food toppings.

CleatBoiler : device for warming up sailing tackle.

LearIceBlot : a previously unknown Shakespearean play, borrowing from his experiences in a Glasgow crack house.

TacoBellIre : for our US readers this is self evident.

Balticreole : tad we way nord us we spost to my man, Swede yo !

LoiterCable : as installed by BT for their highest speed priority internet backbone.

BleatRecoil : an induced sheep movement.

LiceToblerA : failed Swiss confectionery.

CoatLibeler : one who publishes false things about outdoor wear.

CeltAirLobe : a new take on the old Irish joke.

ToeCareBill : a potential US health system fix.

OilBracelet : a new fluid style of jewelry.

ReliableCot : that won't fall down after you get into it.

Cheers, Mike.

Yes, well... that doesn't surprise me at all *judder right light aperture flap at Mike* My feeling is that if one suffers from logolepsy, then one will have a tic.

Oh very apt - specially the seizures bit. *raise one enquiring facial hair strip* Are yours epic, Mike?

*clutch chest and emit sudden yelp*

I meant your seizures... not your facial strips... Mine get like those suffered by Michael Murray in Alan Bleasdale's GBH. Yes... my tics... not my brow caterpillars...

But enough chatter.

I popped your BIG RED WORD with a very large pin. I hope you don't mind *blink unsympathetically* It's not that it's completely wrong, but it is so nearly completely wrong, it only redeemed itself at the last gasp so to speak.

Don't be too disappointed. You did excel at utter wrongness elsewhere, like

HERE
¬
vvv for instance:

No letters correct
CleatBoiler
TriceAleLob
CoatLibeler
OilBracelet
ReliableCot

Then things started to fall apart...

One letter correct
TreacleLobi
LearIceBlot

Two letters correct
LiceToblerA
CeltAirLobe
ToeCareBill
RELOCATIBLE

Three letters correct
TacoBellire
BleatRecoil

And then everything just got plain nasty when you mentioned BT and their loitercables *glare*

Four letters
LoiterCable
Balticreole

Thanks to it causing an annietrecoil, my then weakened condition created a leak. Y-e-e-s. All I can hope for now, is that when the world's secret services catch up with me *beam audaciously at world's secret services* I will do better under torture.

In the meantimem what I'm trying to say... is this... of the last group:

One has the last three letters correct. One has both L's correct. Whether they are one and the same I'm not saying. I am saying that for position 3 and position 7 you got 100 percent big zero's for correctness... whilst likewise achieving 66.6 percent wrongness for position 11 (which is the position you got most right - so erm... well done)

edit: you scored very highly on your words by the way. Yes. I liked them a LOT! :) Next time I'm in a pub, I will definitely try out the TriceAleLob... but the minus marks for mentioning a certain unmentionable - has left you with just 1 mark...

for effort. I hope that hasn't discouraged you? :)

another edit: you have just got to the end of the most edited post I have ever made ever anywhere! :/ If anyone was trying to read it whilst I was doing it - my sincerest apologies :)

And I have just had to edit that edit too...

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

After writing down all of

After writing down all of Mike's words and logically eliminating all the wrong letters according to Annie's clues, I found myself left with nine letters right and only two unaccounted letters and places to put them. Phonetically, they only work one way. However, I think I will climb into my hole home and take a nap (or at least lunch) before I claim victory.
